Thanks for the heads-up on Shelter Island, I will check it out. Five miles is ok to launch as I have done Big Big Bear Lake in one trip approx 22 miles. that was more than I should have done because I was beat! I have done Mission Bay in two trips so I wouldn't be so tired. I have a 12' sot rec Kayak but it travels fairly fast and easy. I plan to do the San Diego Bay trip in two trips as well, with the south trip starting at Coronado Island.
