Upstate South Carolina Posted by: waveskimmer on Jun-11-12 3:57 PM (EST)
I'm a middle-aged newcomer who's lived 20+ years away from his home state of South Carolina, including an extended time overseas. Having relocated back to the Upstate, I'm interested in making friends and getting reacquainted with the natural beauty of the area's mountains, lakes and rivers (spent summers as a kid near Table Rock). No kayaking experience here and some experience with tent and pop-up camping. Are there any groups/clubs who organize periodic outings? Anybody out there with the patience and interest to show a newbie the ropes? Located in York County. Interested in excursions throughout the Upstate.
Please consider the MeetUp groups, http://www.meetup.com/The-Greenville-Sea-Kayakers-Meetup-Group/ and http://www.meetup.com/wckayaking-Greenville/ They share members and leadership. Also check in with outdoor shops Sunrift, Half Moon, Appalachian Outfitters and REI.
Thanks. I'll check them out!
I lived in the Clemson area about 12 years ago. I used to put in at Tugaloo State Park on Hartwell. Lake Jocassee had a nice camping area and the lake had relatively little traffic. Obviously, that was a long time ago.
there's a group of very active paddlers in your area who always have something going on. They're called the Catawba Cruisers Paddling Club. You can also pay attention to threads authored by "String". He organizes a lot of informal trips on SC waterways...
Great information. I'll check it out. Thanks so much!
Im looking for a strong paddler to partner with me in a racing canoe. I had a partner this year but he just didnt work out nor was he quite competitive as I am. If your interested in trying it out let me know I live in york county as well
