I took the boat out this morning for a park-and-play trial run on the Schoharie...Even with knee pads spread wide, things were--ahem, shall we say slightly tippy at first. After a bumpy start and I got over my initial "red scare" I decided I don't want to push her down any Cl. 3(like Elmer's Diner on the Esopus)anytime soon. And although she rode up and over waves and pivots with the greatest of ease, a couple inadvertant side surfs gave me the willies enough to feel like I was inside a fat lady's hat box. So I'll stick to paddling it solely on mellow Cl. 1-2s for awhile. When a plastic hull hits a rock, what's a few more scratches? With a ducky, ya bounce right off But catching the wrong pointer broadside with this tub, and it could result in some serious...splinteration. (Not that I care all that much about it going the distance, if I get a handful of pleasant rides out of it, it's been worth the price--Why should fun be expensive?)
Besides, I've learnt my lesson about bringing too non-conformist a boat along on class trips;-.
