Only seven weeks to this year's Spring Rendezvous on the North Fork.
I NEED A PADDLING FIX.
The weather looks good for canoeing here through Sunday and into next week (temps each day in the 70's to about 80). However the rivers don't. Checked the gauge at my favorite day trip put in on the Raccoon River and it was reading about 185 cfs and going down. About 600cfs is a comfortable level. I've done it lower than 600 cfs but can't remember avoiding dragging at lower than 400 cfs.
The median for this date is about 410 cfs, but usually a lot of the water in the river is in solid form at this time of year. Even though there is no ice anywhere around it seems to me the water is still too cold to do a lot of dragging.
I think I need to arrange for a kegger on the river so we can all piss in the river and raise the water level.
I am getting the feeling that if I don't take my canoes out soon my they will stage a mutiny. With the weather this nice they're not buying the smiles and hugs in the garage anymore.
