Cabins at River of Life = $$$

We changed over to River of Life last year after we left the nasty-nasty cabin we had rented at Twin Bridges.
River of Life was very nice and very clean, but extremely pricey, even for the cheapest room. The cabins are even more expensive. On top of that, you are given instructions to clean your own room (including the kitchen and bath) and strip linens upon leaving. I thought that was rather strange, especially considering the cost of the room.
If anyone wants details about our experience with the cabins at Twin Bridges, email me. I won't publish it here. I also found the campground bathrooms to be pretty awful, but I did not see the shower house. Were they better than the bathrooms near the entrance?
Maybe I'm just spoiled by the campgrounds on the Current River, but I've made two trips to the North Fork, and stayed at two different campgrounds (not counting River of Life) and both were enough to ruin the river for me. River of Life would be great except for the cost.
Is it possible to river camp on the North Fork, or is most of the land along the river privately owned?
