Adirondacks Posted by: adk_lisa on Dec-30-11 8:33 AM (EST)
Hi Leo. I started paddling in the Adks when I was about 6 years old. I now have grandchildren that are that age and I am eager to introduce them to the Adirondacks as well. When we first started paddling we had a base camp in a campground and would do overnight or sometimes 2 nights away, and then would return to the campground. Eventually we built up to 2 week ventures. Long Pond in the St. Regis canoe area is also a great starting point, since you are never a far paddle from your vehicle. There is a nice island to camp on, and you could do day trips to some of the other ponds from there. Whatever you decide you won't be disappointed. The ADKS are a paddlers paradise.
