A great place to paddle but not for beginners. The water is in the 50s and the currents and rips generated by changes in the tide can be faster than you can paddle. Bring a tide table and get in a chess game with Mother Nature. Watch out for State ferries and their enormous wakes. Plenty of tug and barge traffic pulled by long cables and some ocean going ships. It rains a lot. Great wildlife and cetacean watching, great camping, and beautiful places to go. DNR campgrounds are crowded in July and August.
