One other thing I would recommend is a rudder. I use my rudder a lot when casting, I can actually get one or two more cast just by moving my rudder to help position my boat. Also, look around and use what the river gives you. I fish a lot of deadfalls for bass so I have a bungee that I wrap around a small branch then I can work the treetop with a worm or jig then let loose and move on.
