  trolling motor on solo canoe?
Posted by: old_user on Mar-03-11 9:53 PM (EST)

Bought an LL Bean Trolling Motor Mount, not realizing I'd have to mount the TM so far forward or aft that I couldn't reach it from my seat in the center of the boat. Is anyone aware of a mount wide enough to be mounted a couple feet in front of or behind a seat that's in the center of the canoe? I understand a TM works better either at the bow or stern of a canoe but what about those of us with single seat canoes? I'm not a DIY type guy, so I'd need to buy one commercially. My canoe manufacturer suggested I shift the location of the seat further forward or back but I really don't want to mess with the seat position.

I've used one on my outboard and didn't care for it for a few reasons that don't seem to apply to your situation. It might be worth a try to allow you to sit where you want and have the trolling motor mounted where it will be most effective (and won't overweigh the canoe on one side).
