The hull is pretty deep. It's meant for ocean use and has a deeper draft than some river boats. Nevertheless, you'll be fine in Class 1 and 2 with it. I've taken that boats big brother, a tandem Malibu 2, through up to class 2+ rapids and it performed far better than I expected. I've used the slightly smaller brother, the Scrambler rather than the Scrambler XT, surfing in ocean surf and it handled great. I think the Scrambler XT would do you real well.

I completely agree with the comment about adding some thigh straps. They are invaluable in any kind of squirrelly water.

By the by, I'm 6'3" and 250#(give or take). If you're much bigger than me, you may want to consider a Drifter instead of a Scrambler XT. I was at the very top end of the Scrambler's range. If you're roughly my size or smaller, I think you'll be OK.
