Toms River, NJ - Riverwood Park put in
Posted by: Joelsongs on May-21-14 7:10 AM (EST)

My two uncles and I recently paddled Toms River, putting in at the Riverwood Park off of Whitesville Rd. It was a great trip, but difficult and A LOT of downed trees making for difficult passage in spots. The river at this point is a collection of sharp S curves and the current was a steady 4mph average. If you late go of your paddle for more than 3 seconds to take a picture or anything, you would wind up in the bushes. One tree in particular only had about a foot and a half clearance to get underneath. We had to lay down in our kayaks with our heads on our seats to get through. It was a good challenge but be prepared to rub up against a lot of submerged wood.
