I used to pull and chop a lot of cocklebur and velvetleaf, walking fields along that stretch. Back when the most popular herbicide still had names like John, Jim, Chris, and Brian.

I didn't have a boat then. For the most part, I saw what I saw from the shorelines, rope swings, and swimming. I sure would love to paddle that stretch of river.

I made it back for the South Dakota Challenge 2 years ago. A really nice stretch of river just downstream of this one. This stretch between Ft. Randall and Springfield is even more rural. I think it's great to see these races organized there. Maybe it's time for another trip home?

  That's a nice stretch

About 12 years ago, I was on a business trip in Sioux Falls. Stayed a few extra days and paddled about 30 miles on the Missouri. Take out was at Running Water. Had to drag the boats at the Niobrara confluence. The rest of the river was scenic with lot's of wildlife and a good mix of slow and fast stretches. Love to do it again.
