Dealer #1 quoted $2000 for work and said it was minor leak and could wait 6 or so months. Dealer #2 on Friday afternoon said it was the worst they had seen, showed me the extreme residue scab on both sides, insisted I take a free 2014 Outback loaner for a week as they felt the car was dangerous to drive while they fixed over New Year's week and would charge $1350 for same work. Dealer #2 got my business then and will so in the future.

Glad to hear how well things worked out. Head-gasket issues always interest me because my car has been showing indications for a long time that COULD be due to a minor head-gasket leak, but so far I've been unable to find anything definitive. Fingers crossed on that one.

and will investigate warranty with Subaru USA as both dealers said no to that. Somewhat local (35 miles away) mechanic who works primarily with Subarus quoted same $2000 for work and no help with loaner car. I too have had some negative dealer experiences but not this time.
