I saw him paddling a red Explorer on the Ware River in central MA on Sunday.
He sometimes goes by the name Wickerbut, and on this day he was accompanied by five elves – Riverstrider, Dougd, Matt, Marshall and me. Like us, he was out for a relaxing afternoon before the busy holidays set in. A couple of beers, a little Sailor Jerry, a cigar – even Santa needs a break once in a while. Good time with a great crew. Few more pictures here:

It is always a treat to get out in tolerable weather with more-than-tolerable company in December in New England! We had to run a gauntlet of icy roads and scattered vehicles that had off-highway experiences to get there (in fact TommyC1 decided to turn around and stay home, the roads were so bad), but it was worth the trip. Most of us had never been on this stretch of the Ware River, and speaking for myself, I would definitely go back.
Santa smokes and drinks!!!|

Well, if it helps him make all those deliveries on-time by Christmas Eve, okay then...Now as I understand it, he also mostly likes dehydrated food in the way of calories when on one of his longer runs;--But just how the heck does he get that canoe down all those chimneys??? (I mean, like the decals alone gotta add so much extra weight.)
Oh YUCK!! Santa smokes stogies?|

Hopefully only outside as those who smoke, even cigarettes, smell like dirty ashtrays.

If so I won't shoot first and ask questions later. if he drops by Christmas eve. I would even leave a shot of rum and a rum cigar.

It took a lot of effort to pull of us all together and it was worth every minute of it. This is a good band of Elves and Santa to hang with! WWeb says we are nuts to stand for so long in our hulls with poles, String says we are an inspiration (from FB), but for us boys it's just another day on the river. Who could ask for more!

...to ALL paddler's who wet a blade, no matter what type craft float's your ageing carcass, (even a P140) on whatever type body of water, be it fresh, or salty.

Looking forward to our next adventure. No doubt about it - paddlers are the best people!

Think I'd rather take on a Class 6 sans helmet and PFD, than deal with dat in icy cornditions(TommyC1--Guy demonstrates again, good judgement both on and off the rivers, if'n ya asks me.)
