I carried everything I needed on a 7 day trip with a Hornbeck. Although not generally in the category of a tripping solo canoe, I did paddle a 10.5' Hornbeck on a diagonal across the Adirondacks, and then some. I took 7 days, and carried everything I needed with me.
Why a Hornbeck? Because the distance was 185 miles total, including 62 miles of carries, with a significant portion of trailless bushwhack. That's why I did not take a Rapidfire or GRB, which would have been better paddling the longer distance of bigger lakes, but is not so good winding through dense brush and trees of deep woods. But the Hornbeck was adequate for the week and I'd do it again.
The point is, even when you say "tripping" canoe, there are many reasons to choose one model over the other depending on your exact usage plans.
