Depends on paddler size and load.
I agree with the Osprey and Merlin II and would probably prefer the former (I have the latter). But if the load was not too large for the boat the Colden/Placid/Bell Wildfire (or even Flashfire for the smaller paddler) would do well.
If the emphasis was more on river paddling the Hemlock SRT or Colden/Curtis Dragonfly are swell boats and even the Hemlock Shaman (generally considered a whitewater boat) has enough carrying capacity and hull efficiency to be no slouch. The Mad River Courier has enough capacity and hull depth to carry a large load down a river but like the Rendezvous will catch a good bit of wind on flat water.
Many will probably want to add Prospector canoes of various sizes and makers as well as other old Curtis models.
