Oh, my location between the Tug Hill Plateau and the western Adirondacks is far from city lights and is dark enough. It is just plagued by the effects of relatively warm Lake Ontario and the cooling uplift caused by the Tug causing lots of what is known as lake effect with rain and very deep snows. The Novemberish weather pattern we are now in is particularly hopeless.
Heavens-Above website is generally pretty good for predicting satellite observations, and is especially accurate (within a few seconds) for observing Iridium flares. Whenever I guide trips in the Adirondacks I like to be near a clearing or a lake to make mention of objects in the night sky most people have never seen. At the appropriate moment I say.... "and then over here..." as an Iridium flare brightly shows itself. It makes an impressively good show.
