I’ve been busy for the past three weekends, so my paddling excursions needed to be close to home. With the change in seasons here in RI, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. My local river is the Blackstone, and there are some very nice sections that are no more than 15 minutes from my house. I paddled two sections of the Blackstone Canal and Heritage Park – the Blackstone Gorge in Blackstone, MA; and River Bend Farm in Uxbridge, MA. Yesterday I paddled the section of Blackstone River from Woonsocket, RI (where I live) to Manville, RI. I wouldn’t say that the colors were spectacular, but they were pretty good.
No doubt about it – fall is my favorite time to paddle.

I decided a long time ago that local paddling is my thing. Why drive for two, or three hours when you are 15 minutes from superb paddling with all the variety, scenery, wild life and action you could want. I haven't strayed more than 50 miles for paddling in years--all the better for more time spent on the water and less time on the road.
very pretty up there on your Blackstone |

to take the leaves off the trees. We probably still have one more weekend of nice foliage around here. After that it will probably be gone.
