Wow! They kept my credit card and other personal information even though they ceased to exist. Needless to say, I cancelled my subscription once again.

I used to enjoy sending a lot of our neat nature pictures to P-net, but we no longer can do that.
Card # not hard to understand at all|

A lot of people on Webshots had free accounts. Naturally the people that run the site have no record of a credit card number for those users. But photo quality for those with free accounts was mediocre. People who wanted to be able to display photos in larger sizes needed to pay for that service, and that's where the credit-card payment comes in. You can cancel a subscription but if they are not honest, they may still keep the card number on file. Not all sites are as shady as that, but some are.

They make you send an email to cancel the subscription? I couldn't find anything else.
It is easy to start|

a monthly credit card payment for some service, but hard to stop that payment. Someone else on this site described the practice as "oily".
Watch your statement|

If a charge appears call your card company and have them block that merchant going forward. It stinks if Webshots (whoever they are now) charges your account without your permission, but it's pretty easy to make it stop.

I just got my statement and had a charge on it for that! Bastages They do a nasty file dump of years of pix and comments then expect you to WANT their services??? Not this lady!! Having them blocked....they don't deserve to be in business!
Apparently, Smile went down in flames...|

...which is exactly what I hoped would happen after the way Webshots screwed us over. Now they're reduced to being a wallpaper and screen saver service. Hopefully that will die soon, too.
they did some other things too.|

I remember when I first signed up as a paid member, it was a ONE-TIME, lifetime charge for membership, maybe $29 or $49, don't remember. At any rate, somewhere along the way, they started charging me annually, I think. When I protested, they said it was because they had been bought out and the old agreement was invalid. To automatically start charging me for services I hadn't agreed to made me so mad that I cancelled Webshots right then and there. That was several years ago, long before becoming SMILE. It was shady then, and shady now.
I have blocked them|

from my bank account so they won't be able to charge..and I asked that the 2.99 charge be removed..i will send them an email cancelling my subscription... who do they think they are that they can just ruin someone's stuff and expect us to still want their service? At least I have my pix downloaded but will i ever get to post them in albums again? And do i want to?....
Glad I Dumped Them....|

...while I was still a "Free" user. Thankfully, some of my P.net friends turned me on to PBase.com several years ago. Yup, I have a nominal annual fee, but if I or one of my friends goes to the site, they will get ZERO adds, pop-ups, spam, et al.

I just got an email response from my bank.. they wanted to cancel my card immediately if I am sure i did not allow this charge..it's one of those deals, I got the email, sat on it, and they charged my card the 1st of monthly payments already..sent them an email cancelling my subscription immediately and hope no further charges appear.. the bank will then get me a new card number if any other charges appear..I did not let them know in a timely manner so they used my old credit card info..
