NT and I were early arrivals at the Raystown gathering. There were whitecaps on the lake, the sky was gray and it was raining. I made my way to NT's site to say hello. He saw me coming and quickly transferred the cigar from his right grip to his bourbon holding left side so to extend the free hand with a warm welcome. Our conversation was mostly about who had arrived and of those who said they would; it became a long list.
We were under the tarp gazing across the windy bay, rain pelting down when NT turned and said, "God I love this shit! I'm like a kid in a candy store." At first, I was amiss and thought he was referring to the weather. What Norbert liked was a group of folks getting together for a good time. It is no wonder that NT's site was always the hub of activity at Raystown.
I once made a comment that it must be a primal thing that creates camaraderie when men gather around a campfire. NT was quick to respond that genetics and fire had nothing to do with it. "It's just good people." he said.
