On the fence again.|

I tried retirement and hate it,so I am looking for work again. If I get a job,I doubt I can take off with such short notice and being a new employee. If I am still "retired" then I'll be there.
I will be on|

I think I'll need to get there though. Just read of NT's passing and would like to hoist a beverage (or 12) in his memory with alot of folks that knew him.
Not sure at this point|
Posted by: Pyker on Sep-10-13 10:06 AM (EST)
Will have just started a new job at that point and am certain that I will be able to get out of town soon enough.

Not this year. Going on trip to Maine next week, and don't have time for both.
Lucky you Andy!|

Haven't been to Raystown for several years. Is there any information available on camping and directions?
Posted by: pblanc on Sep-11-13 10:37 AM (EST)
The nearest town of any size to the campground is Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. You can enter it in mapquest or google maps for general directions.
Posted by: riverman69 on Sep-11-13 5:32 PM (EST)
I think it is our duty to have a couple of cocktails in memory of NT. I hope as many people as possible that knew Him can show up this year.
Posted by: ret603 on Sep-13-13 11:51 AM (EST)
I would have loved to attend Raystown, catch up with friends and share in NT moments and memories.

It's always the first FULL week in October, making it the week starting the 7th.
No Raystown this year..|
Posted by: billinpa on Sep-23-13 5:11 PM (EST)
Finally after being retired and looking for a part time job along with social security for early retirement, I was offered a job today part time even with benefits. Sadly I will have to miss out on Rays town this year. I start the new job the week before Raystown and can't get off. Hope someone can post plenty of pictures. Have fun, paddle, drink, eat and be happy. Catch you all next year.
Will USACE facilities be open?|
Posted by: Jsaults on Oct-01-13 2:30 PM (EST)
From what I read of the gummint shut-down the Corps will have to close any "non-essential" services.
Posted by: riverman69 on Oct-01-13 8:11 PM (EST)
Jim, I was thinking the same thing myself. I would not like to drive 5.5 hrs to find it closed. I am planning on arriving Wed the 9th. I was thinking of trying to call there to check on things.
Posted by: bluemerle on Oct-02-13 12:21 PM (EST)
The reserveamerica website, for reservations (you DO NOT need a reservation for the rendezvous) at the Raystown Seven Points Campground, is down due to the Federal Government Shutdown.
Posted by: riverman69 on Oct-02-13 6:22 PM (EST)
I called Raystown Lake. They where open today, but had no info on possible closing. I told her I will call on Monday and Tuesday to make sure they where still open.
Gonna try |
Posted by: booztalkin on Oct-01-13 7:03 PM (EST)
I'm signed on with a buddy to repeat the trip to NH we did a few years back, in conflict with Raystown dates. However, my buddy thinks he may not be able to go to NH due to his work commitments. So, maybe Raystown. Either way, I think I will try to get up there before the weekend to say hello to whoever the early birds turn out to be.
Open till the 14th|
Posted by: riverman69 on Oct-04-13 11:27 AM (EST)
I just called again. They plan on being open till the 14th. I told Her I would check again on Tuesday. I am going to start packing gear and plan on it happening. Hope to see You all soon.
OK WE are coming|

I was on the fence for a while . . . |
Posted by: Nightswimmer on Oct-07-13 12:46 PM (EST)
but I made up my mind. I'll be there sometime on Thursday morning. I called the Army Corps they said the campground was going to be open until at least Monday the 14th. I was hoping to stay at the primitive Susquehanock campground but they USACE said it was closed for the season (bummer) so I guess we'll be headed to the Senioa Loop as usual.
Heading for RT|

Looking forward to seeing You all there.
Posted by: pblanc on Oct-07-13 7:21 PM (EST)
I am starting to feel sorry for myself for not being there. I would really like to see you guys (Dave, Johnny, Ed, Wes, Tom) but it is just so far away from me and I will be going to the Ozarks in a week, then to an ACA river safety conference at the end of the month.
And I'm certain...|
Posted by: canoeswithduckheads on Oct-08-13 9:07 AM (EST)
...we'll all miss you, Doc White, and your sagely, steadying interjections of wisdom and verve to our usual wobbly orbits of off-keelter direction. Perhaps even those occasional displays of stunning, chromatic-burst fashion, too, which often you array yourself within, and which far surpass those hued glories of autumnal splendor, or Luke-lipped lily-dipped bloom and King Solomon majesty!. Why, those kaleidoscopic collisions to rods 'n cones could set an entire commune of Haight-Ashbury holdovers onto astral plains Timothy Leary barely touched!
Glad to see that it's going ahead|
Posted by: Andy_Szymczak on Oct-07-13 8:35 PM (EST)
Family obligations are interfering with my ability to be there, but I knew that long ago.
Well Czaks, Szym!|
Posted by: canoeswithduckheads on Oct-08-13 10:07 AM (EST)
We shall add a shot glass in your absentia to our toasts to N.T., and I'll stand-in (likely but for a short spell thereafter) for you with its consumption. Then I'll sit and toast you, too!
Could be, best Raystown ever...|
Posted by: Conk on Oct-08-13 8:53 AM (EST)
In that, the government views a Duckhead assemblage to be, nonessential, I foresee the USACE making an early morning sweep of the Seven Points facilities ordering an immediate evacuation. The Senoia loop gate will swing closed behind the last Penn State bannered motor home.

You shall be missed, too! (I'm beginning to feel like Judy Garland speakin' to Bert Lahr.)
