and why should he?

The closing answer in his OP was a snotty retort that does nothing to answer the question. And he didn't indicate in his post that he was confused by the retort, he simply noted it.
I have a sensitivity to how we treat new paddlers, when they are asking specific questions not related to safety. I also have a problem with the way "experienced kayakers" treat those who choose to paddle their rec boats in the conditions for which they were intended, with no intent on progressing or with an intent to progress eventually - so in addition to being snotty, it was incorrect. These forums have a posting history of denigrating rec boats and paddlers, yet I've never noticed any forum titles that justify this treatment (the site is not "advanced paddlers.net).
I'm not going to name names, but if you can't see any of what I'm describing, then I don't think you're paying attention or thinking outside of your own experience level to how some of this might sound to a new or recreational kayaker.
finally I just know if I answered every forum question the way some people have here, with useless elaboration or irrelevance to the question, it wouldn't take long for people to tell me to stop. And rightly so.
