OK, so you can source a skirt for a gigantic cockpit, good job!
I'm guessing the skirt especially a Seals costs as much as the boat in many instances. What you're missing is at "most" not "all" point of sale locations the aren't selling the skirts. It doesn't occur to the average rec paddler that he/she needs one. The typical big box store clerk isn't suggesting that the rec boat buyer needs one and there usually isn't a display. I've looked at places such as Bass Pro, Cabella', Dick's and all have large displays of rec boats, not a skirt in sight. I went to the Bass Pro website and they have pages of rec boats, paddles and accessories, but not a single spray skirt available for sale. While a few rec boaters may make the leap and seek one out, I'm betting the vast majority don't. Out of sight, out of mind.
When I go to my higer end outfitter, there is always a rack of available and right sized skirts for me to choose from.
Even the most basic paddler knows they need a boat and paddle. Some view the PFD as optional and even more don't bother with the skirt. You've only proved that you've found one and it sounds like you use one if the conditions call for it.
