  don't need coupon
Posted by: Peter-CA on Mar-22-13 9:58 PM (EST)
I don't think you need a coupon. if you shop online, just type in MEM2013. And at the stores, they can see if you have used it on their computer, and if not, can give you the discount.

Now prices will be normal again

I really want to like REI, but I am constantly amazed at how danged expensive they are. I'm a member and own one of their big car camping tents (which is a great unit), but I seldom buy anything from them due to their prices being 20-30% more than other retailers. I paid a visit to a retail store this past week while visiting family, and I was blown away anew. $105 for a wool base layer shirt. Really? REALLY? $50+ for a pair of NRS Kicker Remixes? Ouch...

I usually only buy REI brand stuff
Posted by: Canuka on Mar-25-13 12:28 PM (EST)
The REI-branded products are reasonably priced, for the most part. The "name-brand" stuff is outrageously over priced. So I only buy that stuff when it's on sale/closeout, etc.

I used to shop at REI pretty regularly and have been a member for over 20 years. But just to show you how much I shop there nowadays, my dividend this year is a whopping $2.80. Last time I had no dividend, didn't even step into the store (and I live only about three miles from it).

  Ain't gots me deeveedent yet

Been a member o' REI since 1968. Every time ah's gone west ta Seattle, de old original store wuz one o' me foyst stops. Now de new flagship store be somethang ta behold, but alas de ol' store had character.

Now wez gots a brandy-new REI in me neck-o-de-woods (Paramus, NJ) along wit EMS, Ramsey Outdoors, L.L. Bean an' de mecca o' campin' stores - Campmor... all within a 3 mile stretch o' Rt. 17. Dem flatlander Yuppies got'ta have dem's outdoor stuff fer dat hardship-filled expedition fro' dem's Beemers across de parkin' lot ta de mall entrance.

But, yup, REI be kind'a expensive on dem's non-sale items but de company is very active in local environmental projects so dat be a good thing.

  The Route 17 Rodeo, Yo!

If'n I recall correctly, per your previously posted pixelated pastiche in parking lot post-partem passage, what Route 17 really needs is one of those, THAT'S-A-NASA! Surplus Stores, where one might acquire the proper helmet and g-suit needed for maintaining conscious launch and highway reentry.

  Woohoo

got mine this weekend as well. Since I use my REI card for business I had $150 in rebates plus the 20% off so now I'm the proud owner of a MSR Twing. Well figuratively anyway. Had to buy online and it gets delivered Wednesday. :-(

  returns
Posted by: redrocket on Mar-25-13 9:02 PM (EST)
I don't mind the prices because of their awesome return policy. I used to shop moose jaw and I bought a mountain hardware ultra lamina 15 from them. I took it on a week trip and realized that it was junk. Now i am stuck with it. At rei if I buy something and it sucks I can return it with no questions asked. I personally love that. I am rei for life!
