If you're getting a short rec kayak

you can just put it in the bed of your truck and secure it to the loops at the front and rear.
When I go for a day trip, usually a 14' kayak, and take our pickup, an F150 Super Crew, I have my husband just attach our "T" bar into the hitch and fasten the boat to that.
The "T" bar is also great for carrying wallboard, lumber and numerous other items. A great item for with so many uses.
If I take the Explorer, then the Hullivator goes on top.
