It wouldn't make any sense at all for the average person who shoots photos hastily by the point-and-shoot method to use the same camera gear as someone who painstakingly sets up their photos and strives to get high-quality shots. By the same token, a person who paddles occasionally and no more than two or three miles at a time on quiet water isn't likely to justify spending the bucks for the kinds of boats and paddles that a lot of people on this site would prefer. Big-box stores aren't the drawback in this case. Instead, they are a logical place for people to go for gear that need not be extremely good to function at their level of need.
