Neoprene to Nylon

I want to make a combination top-deck (neporene spraydeck with attached nylon cag), probably by mutilating a neoprene cockpit-cover and an old short-sleeved cag.
An suggestions as to how I should attach the nylon to the neoprene? Clearly it needs to be waterproof and reasonably robust.

I usually sew neo to nylon. Not sure if a domestic sewing machine will take the thickness of the neoprene thou; I use an industrial sewing machine
