Neoshell Jacket Posted by: kayakerkevin on Dec-19-12 12:56 PM (EST)
After reading the article on outdoor fabrics I can say that the Marmot Zion Neoshell jacket I purchased last fall(2011) is far superior to my Goretex jacket. It's not only much more breathable than the Goretex one, it does it without needing mesh venting under the arms, across the chest or elsewhere.I've worn it kayaking in rain in the low 30's to the low 60's and with a breathable shirt under it,I've stayed perfectly dry. I've also worn it during summer downpours and while shoveling snow in the winter and stayed dry each and every time. The attached storm hood is great on those windy days on the water. Though I've never rolled my kayak while wearing it,since it doesn't have a waterproof seal around the neck or sleeves,it would let water in that way.The jacket I got stretches a little but that's probably due to Marmot's designers and not the Neoshell material itself. While I can't comment about the other fabrics,I would recommend Neoshell to anyone considering a new waterproof and breathable jacket or pants for recreational and day touring in a kayak.
Thanks for the personal experience! That's always the best test. I've heard equally good things about this material. Thanks for sharing it...Safe paddling!
