  Trolling

Having the rod in a holder is the only way paddle yakkers can troll, of course. My Hobie ProAngler 14 allows me to troll almost hands-free, and I hold the trolled rod. That allows me to impart some additional action to the lure. It sometimes makes all the difference. In fact, trolling is so effective from the PA that I do a lot more of that than casting. Pedaling (not peddling, Jerry) is effortless at trolling speed.

I do prefer a lipped crankbait for trolling, for all the reasons Jerry points out. I'll have a shallow, a medium and a deep-diver ready to clip onto my line to match water depth.
