Is this the same Dr. S who used to (or perhaps still does) practice at the Ely Clinic? I blew out my meniscus on a trip in 2003, managed everybody back to the take out - I was the only experienced adult with my wife, four kids (12 and 13 year-old daughters had done a short trip in 2001) and two other adults making up our group. Everybody worked like champs as we packed up and paddled out with me unable to portage anything. Our outfitter then dropped me at the clinic while he took everybody else back to the bunkhouse. It was then I learned that I'd be seeing an orthopedist name Dr. Schwinghamer. Great name for an ortho doc. He got me wrapped up and crutched and sent me on my way for surgery at home 2 weeks later. Our family motto: "No matter what happens, it makes for great stories." Belated thanks to Dr. S for his encouragement and skills. Not surprised by Cliff's story.

Yep, this is the same Tom Schwinghamer. He and I have canoed a lot of northern rivers together. And though there's gray at the end of the tunnel now for both of us, we are still trippin'! I'll pass on your message to him.
