Trip planning Posted by: wavetamer on Apr-29-11 12:21 PM (EST)
HI, nice article...One point I didn't notice in this list of planning tips is to file a float plan...Granted a short day trip may seem like too small an outing but making sure someone knows of your plans is important. On overnights or extended trips it should be a main point in your planning. Float plans given to a harbormaster, local authority or even left with a family member or friend means someone will have a notion where you might be if an emergency arises and you fail to show up when scheduled. There are forms one can get on paddling sites on the Internet, but even a who/where/when list can be helpful. At a minimum, you can leave info on the dash of your car so those who need to know have a relative idea of your anticipated journey. Safe paddling to all! Tom W.
