Brace paddle mechanics Posted by: DavidSinish on Sep-01-10 11:14 AM (EST)
As usual I find Wayne's articles most complete and informative. Many years ago an ACA instructor advised us prospective instructors that when we teach we talk way too much. Shorter explanations work well, as people cannot remember more than three things at a time! We were required to teach ferrys in silence. "Flat, Far and Flick" works well for a novice explanation of braces. Flat because if it isn't flat you got nothing. Far for stability. Flick as we practiced when we first get into the boats. Ask your students to say "Flat, Far, Flick" rapidly one hundred times to entertain themselves on the drive home.
