I wouldn't Paddle w/o my Garmin Posted by: safety6 on Apr-28-10 5:44 PM (EST)
I have been paddling with a GPS for the last 6 years. I started out with the simple E-Trex and then upgraded to the 76C when it came out. Having the ability to plot my route on the PC upload it to my GPS and then paddle it, download what I paddled, has been invaluable. I have done crossings in reduced visbility with my GPS that I would never have done with out. It's a great tool and used with care can be a lifesaver. After 5 years my 76C is going strong no problems, batteries last for 22 hours constant operation. I do use a waterproof case just to be sure.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to try that model this time out but have heard great things from it. I saw a consumer site that said both Garmin and Delorme were equal in quality and effectiveness. I am glad to hear about the battery life, I was a bit concerned about that aspect of it. Thanks for the comments and safe paddling out there. Tom
