there is an easier variation on this technique that does work with a rigid foam paddle float. the swimmer affixes the paddle float to the paddle, creating an outrigger behind the cockpit. The swimmer then positions herself with the outrigger behind her shoulders. Then, using a motion similar to leaning back on the edge of a pool, the paddler leans back on the outrigger and allows her legs to float up. Both legs go into the cockpit....while continuing to lean back on the outrigger, the paddler slips the rest of her body back into the boat. The advantage is that here is no need for the paddler to turn over to be upright and ready to pump out the boat.
