Great topic! Our group of senior men kayakers who have paddled lower 48 and Alaska jokingly call ourselves the The Show Tune Kayakers from Hell from once bursting out in a showtune as we paddled the BWCA. Since then we find a time and place to bellow a few refrains from popular songs...This, incidentally, is a good practice in bear country where making noise warns the bears of human approach.
In Scouting we learned a song supposedly sung by the
Voyageurs:
Our paddles gleaming bright,
flashing like silver,
swift as the wild goose flies,
deep, deep and back and stroke,
deep, deep and back and stroke,
flashing like silver,
swift as the wild goose flies.
It was sung repeatedly in cadence to paddling form/speed.
