You'd never know it by looking at stock prices of those outdoor firms that are on the big board, Johnson Outdoors, one of the largest, Eureka,Old Town, etc, has been in a slump for months and Old Town has cut production. Right now the stock is at about $7.20 a share. Here in Florida some kayak shops including the biggest in the state have dropped dead as a result of the recession and the almost total disappearence of discretionary income. Others are struggling to stay afloat as the jobless rate heads for the double digits and forclosure rates are among the highest in the nation.
