horse flies ?

Florida's coast below Marco island sports "horse flies" 2.5 - 3" long. Said flies feed on dead fish and campers.
Best bug free camping: place boots in a canvas boot bag and bring a wide mouth bottle possibly placing a weight in bottle's bottom.
