Hi, good point and why I mentioned to dig in the center, thereby leaving the ends to support the log. In Alaska, these logs are gigantic and the sections for shelter are but a small fraction of the total. Also, the digging is mostly to level it out so the amount of sand is minor.RE: Snakes, etc....again, Alaska... but good point. If you are there first, and are moving around, you may not see a snake...otherwise....if its a real emergency, luring them to a shelter means food on the squirm!
