  Starting Something

Memories do last forever and kids will remember sometimes when we don't. I started an annual fishing trip about 5 years ago in my church. First it was just for the day The 3rd year is was a 3 day camping/fishing trip. Last year I promised one kid (about 8yrs old) I'd take him down the river for the pike (I guarantee a catch). I completely forgot about it. We go the 1st weekend after June 21st (they can keep the catch then) and about 2 weeks ago (near a month before we are to go) he reminded me of it. Of course I said yes but it just goes to show you what an impact it can have on them. We fish during the day, star gaze at night (or throw foam balls & frisbies w/ 1"glow sticks attached). Even had the ranger give a 45min class on some of the local animals 2 years in a row. They enjoyed touching and seeing them. You're right, it's not just about the fish. I say "Today is a great day for fishing, catching something is a bonus"! Blessings, Nick
