rotator cuff repair

Delayed as long as possible - rotator cuff repair. Got to the point where I couldn't load or unload kayak. Literally dropped the kayak down the side of my Jeep the last time I unloaded. I have done the exercises etc etc and thought I was giving my shoulder a chance to heal before I went to the doc. Turns out, I HAVE to have surgery - this type of tear will never heal on its own. I'm really bummed out. With surgery November 27, I should be ready to paddle in spring. My surgeon says I'll never be back to 100%... My question is: who has experienced rotator cuff tears and how did it affect paddling after surgery? Also, what type of loading rack/device should I consider to get the kayak on/off the Jeep other than my own strength? Thanks.
