  Guidelines--Choosing the Right Canoe...

Kevin did a good job, generally, but he failed to mention what in my experience is the best material for a general use canoe: WEST system, the Wood Epoxy Saturation Technique. Kits can be bought from Chesapeake Water Craft on the East coast or Pygmy Boat Co. on the West coast.

Canoes and kayaks made in this fiberglass-over-wood method are light weight, quite solid, tough, and beautiful since the wood shows through.
