My father was a pastor in the Dakotas. One day driving back from a neighboring town he saw a deer kill that wasn't there when he went by an hour before. He smoked and cured the venison in his smoker made from an old refrigerator.

Last week I took some with me on a solo 79 mile canoe trip of 3 days in the BWCA. Would you believe it was as good after 5 years as it was originally? Would you believe it was just as good 10 years after that? Dad died in 1991 and it is a ceremonial way of communing with him on such trips.
