There is a dangerous dam less than one-half mile downstream at Adel Island Park. Portage to the Adel Island Park Access if you use the Municipal Park location as your take-out. A campground is located at the put-in to rest and relax before you continue your journey.

A portage may be avoided if you stay to the left one mile upstream where the river diverts into two channels. An earthen dam has long ago been eradicated by past floods and allows a pleasant paddle around the east side of Adel. This channel reconnects to the main channel below the dam past Adel Island Park.

For take out or going upstream, low head dam 1/2 mile downstream, do not proceed downstream. May go upstream to go around Island park in Adel before proceeding downstream.
