Though Mariner Point Park is an extremely enjoyable place to explore, launching and recovery is a bit of an issue. First, it is a 100 yard portage to the launch site plus you have to traverse downhill and over railroad ties the last 50 ft. Not a very friendly launch. There is a lot of powerboat traffic but it is a no wake zone until you get out of the creek.

Great spot. Yak tip*** Paddle 50 ft from kayak launch and find the cut over. (it is across from public fishing area)You will need to lift your yak up on land and drag about 25 yds. It is worth the paddling you cut off and rough water in mouth of river. This allows you get over to calm water and hit the water trails faster.

Kayak launch site is a joke. Worst I have seen.

Good spot for paddling. Park is quiet most of the time. Water is the Gunpowder River which flows into the Chesapeake Bay. You can go out as far as you want, Power boats can be a problem on weekends.

The map marker is placed on the power boat ramp. Cartop launch is located just south off of the long parking lot. Need to portage 100-200 feet across grass (sometimes boggy), across walking trail, then down to access channel (small sand/rock beach area). Portapotties are available.

Power boat traffic (and wakes, depending on the boater and boat size) is almost constant, as this is the access channel from the housing community to the north, out to the bay. Minimal if any good landing spots other than the launch area. Banks are steep, but some sand/pebble areas along the channel afford emergency landing if needed. People also fish in the channel.

Using car top launch site is free. I think there is a fee for the power boat ramp.
