SHOW DESCRIPTION:

YakJam is the sexy rock and roll name of the Norwalk Island Kayaker Jamboree. It is an annual event held on Shea Island of the Norwalk Island chain in Long Island sound. The Kayaker Jamboree is not so much an event as it is a place and time.

The Stamford Kayak Group is tying to get kayakers to come together and hang out on Shea Island on date TBA. Some kayakers will camp on the island while others will paddle over for the day on Friday, Saturday, and or Sunday.

The goal with the Kayaker Jamboree is to create unity and harmony among kayakers and kayak groups. What happens that weekend is up to the people that come. I hope as word gets out that some groups will see this as an opportunity to form a loosely woven alliance based on our common interests.

Kayakers from all over Connecticut and lower NY and beyond are invited to come for a weekend long celebration of sea-kayaking in Long Island Sound. Paddle over for the day on either Saturday or Sunday, or Camp over night on Shea Island Friday and or Saturday.

This Jamboree is loosely organized. It is a grass roots effort to try to get the kayak community to converge for one weekend as a show of unity and good will. It is about kayaking and sharing time with other kayakers, not about selling boats, and gear, and stuff. As kayakers we have a lot to learn from each other and the only way we can learn is to come together. It is also a good time for us to give back to the environment by cleaning up Shea Island. On Sunday we will do an Island trash pick up to remove garbage and winter debris that washed ashore (please bring your own gloves and a heavy duty garbage bag)
