I moved to Florida a little while ago, and other than one kayaking trip 12 years before, was a complete novice. My friend lent me a sit in kayak and the two of us went for a paddle one late afternoon along a river by my house. It was all going great and I was really getting the hang of it. The river was full of lily pads, but no big deal, right? Wrong!
I started paddling fast to see what I and the kayak could do, straight over the lily pads. Turns out one of them was actually a tree stump and I managed to get wedged so that I was perfectly balanced on top of the stump, just out of the water. Try as I might I could not get off the thing, and my friend just sat there laughing and commenting on how much he wished he had his camera.
Eventually he brought his kayak up behind mine and gave me a hard shove and I was off again. I have only done ocean paddling since!
