Paddling with the Big Dogs
I keep my kayak at my friend Joyce's. I always leave my dog, Shadow on her screened in porch while we go out kayaking. She always barks at us until we get launched. I suppose she wants to go, too. I've never taken her in the kayak. She's a beagle-lab mix, about 45 lbs. Bigger than the usual dogs I see in kayaks.
Anyway, we had another friend, Robyn, over to yak with us. She had gotten in her boat, Joyce in hers and I had not yet gotten in mine (still had to put Shadow on the porch). All of a sudden, Shadow came running down the pier, jumped into the water and helped herself into Robyn's boat. We were all hysterical over it! She was just not going to be left out again!
I got into my boat. Well, Shadow then exited Robyn's boat and swam to Joyce's.
"Oh no you don't," says Joyce.
So then it was my turn. What can I say, she's a female. Can't make up her mind. She was just not about to stay on the porch again.
Moral of the story...If you can't hang with the big dogs, stay on the porch!
Now Shadow goes with me almost everytime I go out. She is incredibly well behaved. She loves the water and the kayak. After all... I'm the one doing the paddling.
