Expensive Fishing TripI went kayak fishing with my brother early this year just outside the Newport Harbor jetty in California. I caught a nice size halibut about 24Ē long. It was my first time catching a legal size halibut in my new sit on top kayak. I was not prepared to catch a fish this size and I did not have a net so I decided to bounce the fish onto my kayak. Well, the halibut had different ideas.
This halibut was flopping on my lap with the jig still in its mouth and while I was wrestling with this fish, I called my brother to come over to take a picture. By this time my hands and lap was all slimy while trying to hold the fish and pose for a picture. While in the process of taking a picture, I decided to put my thumb to open the halibutís mouth like you see on TV when they hold a bass. Well, stupid me, I forgot halibuts have sharp teeth.
You guessed it, the fish suddenly clamped on my thumb which startled me and yanked my hand and let go of the fish before my brother could take a picture. The worst part was, the sudden pull of my left hand from the halibutís mouth caused my $1,000 WEDDING Ring go flying into the ocean.
To make a long story short, my wife did not believe me when I came home without my wedding ring and the halibut. ďThatís my story and Iím sticking to it.Ē
