Kayak rescue drama in UK
North Berwick, UK
August 17, 2014
The volunteer crew from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution were paged by Aberdeen Coastguard after staff at a nearby visitor attraction had spotted two kayakers in difficulties after a capsize. The lifeboat was launched and was quickly on scene carrying out a search of the area.
The crew spotted one casualty in the water who had been separated from his kayak after capsizing. Once he was on board the crew established the location of the second casualty, who was attempting to paddle the two kayaks back to shore. The crew took both casualties on board the lifeboat and with the kayaks in tow, headed back to station whilst assessing the casualties.
Once back on shore both casualties were treated for the effects of the cold and given safety advice.
