Woman to kayak from Maine to Guatemala
Deb Walters will be leaving from Portland, ME on July 13th and hopes to paddle 2500 miles to Guatemala over the course of the next year. She is hoping to raise donations and awareness by kayaking down the East Coast, and on to Central America, alone.
She says the trip will be an adventure full of hardships, but her problems will pale in comparison to the people she hopes to help. The charity she is paddling for is Safe Passage; a non-profit organization which helps the poorest of the poor and enables their children to go to school.
Walters previous solo kayaking expeditions were in the Arctic, along the Atlantic coasts in the Northeast and the Maritimes, and through tropical waters in Mexico.
